Hi,
I used skin_male_african_middleage_NRM on a female figure, this was the result, but I put the strength at 0.6. (Watch this video, http://gl.ict.usc.edu/Research/SkinStretch/)

Way to go :D A normal map can be reused on a lot of different characters. Skin microstructure deformation is intresting and should be possible even on an MakeHuman. There is an Blender addon "Tension Map" https://blenderartists.org/forum/showth ... nsion-Map/ that looks promising but I haven't had the time to try it out. When I do and if it works it solves a lot of small problems like creating folds on the skin e.g. when bending the thumbs.

Maybe you didn't create veins but the muscles in stomach area and upper arms and legs are created by a normal map, right?

Did you sculpt that and create a normal map or did you use a method by "painting" a height map before? Until now I only created normal maps from the skin itself, but that is a kind of "mircro-normal-map" not changing the body itself. Indeed, I don't need muscles in stomach area, but the back of the hand or a better navel was one of the ideas I had for my characters. The effect creating only a micro-normal-map was similar like to put the color input of the skin texture into the displacement of the material output.

Mindfront wrote:I know this pose is such a cliche, a male showing muscles, but I had a moment in lack of imagination  . This show my improvised corrective shape-keys for the upper arm muscles and is not ment to be other than a deforming enhancement not physical accurate as I am not intrested to be a muscle artist.

No problem. A lot of pictures in this forum present cliches ... girls in sexy poses is a common topic, males with muscles another. For females we can present also guys from a boygroup. Not to forget the zombies for the weirdoes among us ... it is hard to find something which is not allready used as a cliche. I didn't really create a male character until now, but If I will create one, it would also not be an ugly fat guy ...

And most of us males are not looking as good as Samuel does ... but obviously I've an excuse, he is younger than me. ;)
I like all these pictures ...

Yes all muscles details is a normal map.

I placed a MakeHuman character over an 3D scan of a real body and baked. Not because it was easy, but because it was hard ;) . At the beginning I thought of sculpting but felt I havent had the skills. To paint a height map/displacement map was nether an option as it would also need some skills to get it right, as all bodys have tiny unevenness that would be too time consuming to paint, at that time, but now, I would consider making an displacement from an BW photo at least when adding some larger details, like Jennifer's knees is baked from an displacement texture made from a real knee photo. I recommend doing all baking in Blender Internal as it is much faster and easier to manage.

Time for the nails. For my characters I made three different sets of fingernails and one set of toe nails instead of using already existing great user contributed nails. The reason was that I wanted them form fitted to work with my textures, after some days of work (august last year) I came up with this low poly nails. The male big toe nail look bad and to large but I plan to use shoes most of the time. I have uploaded the four different nail sets so you can try them out for yourself, as CC0.

Finger nails
Samuel has very big hands

Sorry about the lack of imagination when naming them.
"Mind nails 01 short" http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... short.html
"Mind nails 02 medium" http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... edium.html
"Mind nails 03 long" http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... _long.html
"Mind nails toes 01" http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... es_01.html

They all use the same textures but with different names.

The final test render of Samuel before continue with next character. For once I am satisfied with the result. It seems Samuel is ready to work in serious (for fun) projects.
Samuel_plays_violin.png
Samuel plays violin
This scene is lit only by the HDRi (license CC0) and a point lamp nothing more. Some cropping in Photoshop and a little blur to make it less sharper. The violin was made by Bellatrix this week, and I did the texturing and material. If I had made some real bumps on the tshirt arms it had looked a bit better but this will suffice.

All that needs to create a character looking almost like this is here:
Skin textures in 2048p (I use 8192p) http://www.makehumancommunity.org/skin/ ... leage.html
Nails http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... short.html
Blender Cycles Skin material download/file.php?id=5930
Blender Cycles render settings download/file.php?id=6046
I used 400 samples and the resolution of 3600x2400 and took about two hours to render.

Clothes of choice can be found in the "User contributed assets" http://www.makehumancommunity.org/conte ... ssets.html (or do your own)

Other assets, I recommend Blend Swap https://www.blendswap.com (or do your own)

Great light and some depth of field. Beside all this technical stuff: This image is simply beautiful.

When a strong character like Samuel discovers his subtle feelings and plays classic music using a violin. ;)
The facial expression is really impressive, well, even a weirdo like me will adore his music ... at least in my imagination. 8-)

Btw.: I also had this idea 13 months ago, when I did the all girl band. I thought of combining classic instruments with modern ones ... (funny enough I took the example of Swedish band Audrey)

http://www.makehumancommunity.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13672&start=69

... but I was too lazy to do that until now ... Is the violin made from quads? (well I could do one as well as a Blender excercise)
